One direction helping family

It’s been a difficult time for the Wilburn family but last weekend they got a rare treat and were able to meet the British-Irish boy band One Direction during their stop in Auckland.

Shona Wilburn was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2008 and has been receiving help from Hospice West Auckland which provides free specialist palliative care and support for people with terminal or life-threatening illnesses.

Wilburn and her family, including husband Sam, 12-year-old Blake and MacKenzie, 10, were given tickets through Hospice West Auckland to see the pop sensations perform one of two sold-out shows at the Trusts Stadium in Henderson.

MacKenzie was in shock, especially when she got to have her brush with fame.

“She was gobsmacked. She couldn’t believe it,” Wilburn says.

After the 2.30pm concert they were introduced to One Direction and spent 10 minutes with the band.

“We had a reasonable chat. They were such nice boys. They said they were enjoying being in New Zealand and were having fun.”

MacKenzie was in awe.

“She was totally starstruck,” Wilburn says.

She says the family’s hearing is a little worse for wear after the concert full of the thousands of screaming teenagers but says it was a great day.

“I suffer from seizures and can’t drive so it’s restricted what the kids can do.

“To get an opportunity like this is amazing for them and very much appreciated. So we’d like to say a big thanks to hospice.”

Hospice spokeswoman Kathryn van Beek says it tries to help families create lasting memories of their time together when one of their loved ones is facing a terminal or life-threatening illness.

And she says they couldn’t have picked a better family to win.

“Their daughter MacKenzie already had a poster shrine to One Direction on her bedroom wall.”

She says the tickets were donated by one of its supporters who wants to remain anonymous.

Oh No! Liam Forced To

Split His Turtles Up!

Now that all five members of One

Direction are back on British soil,

they can go back to their normal

lives – at least for a little while

anyway.

Liam Payne has missed his pet

turtles, almost as much as his

girlfriend Danielle Peazer, but since

arriving back home they’ve

unfortunately had to be split up.

Speaking with The Sun, Liam said:

“We had to split them up — one is

biting the other one. I came home

and my turtle was missing a foot.

Splitting them is sad, but it’s best.”

Aww poor things!

Danielle looked after them while he

was away, and admitted they were a

real handful.

Anyone got a spare turtle foot

Zayn Malik Finding

The Fame Game Hard To

Play

He’s one fifth of the

biggest boyband in the

world, and makes the

hearts of millions of

teenagers flutter whenever

they see him.

However, Zayn isn’t as

comfortable with being

famous as we would think,

with the 19-year-old from

Bradford admitting to

finding it tough going on

One Direction’s recent US,

Oz and NZ tour.

Speaking with Now

Magazine, an eyewitness

said:

“It was ridiculous. Zayn

kept saying it was all too

much and he was just

trying to have a fun night

out. The crowd were

bombarding the two lads

and throwing themselves

at them. It was so bad that

one of the group’s

bouncers had to ask for an

area near the bar to be

cordoned off.”

Harry Styles seemed to be

at ease with the attention,

but Zayn was a little bit

overwhelmed.

Niall Meets The Backstreet

Boys: 1DBSB?

 Yup, Niall’s a massive

Backstreet fan – aren’t we

all?

He paid a visit to see them

in concert down in London,

and tweeted the

following:“amazing night!

met the backstreet boys

and new kids! super nice

guys! got some good

advice!”

Halfway through the

concert, BSB even played

One Direction’s hit song

“What Makes You Beautiful”

whilst Nick, Brian, A.J. and

Howie serenaded some

lucky ladies in the crowd,

prompting Niall to tweet

again: “Hahaha they play

WMYB in the concert!

hahaha! brilliant!”

After the concert, the

veteran boybanders posed

for a photo with Niall, and

he looked genuinely

delighted – the lucky Irish

chap!

Niall Wants To Dye His

Hair Black – But Simon

Cowell Says No!

not niall hear color its  edited

Niall’s had a telling off from bosses

over news that he wanted to dye his

lovely blonde locks jet-black.

The Irish crooner was strictly told by

Simon that he didn’t think it was

good idea, and could cost the group

fans.

We’re not too sure whether any

hair-dying malarkey would lose fans

– possibly the contrary for that

matter – but Simon Cowell is known

to care hugely about the band and

doesn’t want anything to halt their

staggering growth.

Speaking with The Sun, a source

said:

“Simon still controls a lot about the

band down to the finest detail. Niall

was desperate to get rid of his

blond locks and go black just for an

experiment, like loads of normal

teens.”

“Luckily, he had the sense to ask

Simon first because he knows how

he works. He put in a text to him

asking if he could change his hair

colour. Simon was straight back on

to him with a short reply, ‘No way’.”
